I'm retired from racing. Really. I won it all 3 times I've won it. Guaranteed I won't win it tomorrow.
Thu, 21 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Sep 20, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-20-2017.html
AM- run workout, had to take kid to orthodonitist for free consulation. The consulation may be free but the subsequent work is anything but.

Lunch- frisbee. We had 24 last Wednesday but only 11 today. We played 5 vs 6, with everyone on the field. My team was down a person. Then a few left so we had 4v4 when it counted, on a big field. We had some bad turnovers right at the start and got down 3-0 after just a few minutes while completing only 1 or 2 passes. Then we calmed down and won 5-4. To be fair, we should have won based on the teams as we had a lot more speed.
Wed, 20 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Sep 19, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-19-2017.html
AM 5 run. Saw 2 turkeys and 9 deer, including 1 buck that I ran within 10 yards of as he stood watching me. Then bike and weights.
Tue, 19 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Sep 18, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-18-2017.html
AM 3 run 3 bike

Lunch 18 people at ultimate, so 1 field. Nice weather. I rarely go into the end zone but had several long throwers on my team so spent a lot of time there. Caught probably 4 or 5 bombs for scores. And I think I only had 2 or 3 bad throws the whole time. However, when it counted, my team still lost. Doh.

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Sep 16, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-16-2017.html
Rest shin, 50 min bike, then some sauna and steam room.
Sat, 16 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Sep 15, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-15-2017.html
AM 3 run, then 40 min bike. Felt good on the run and was moving quicker than usual.

Lunch- tied the record for most ultimate players with 24. My team won the first game 5-3, then lost the next 3-5. Fun times. Lots of running, tired. Played pretty well today in the catching and defense front. Also fairly well on the throwing, though a few misfires, plus a few good throws that were dropped.
Fri, 15 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Sep 14, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-14-2017.html
AM 4 run on GE trail, then 2 xt. Ran right next to 4 turkeys, one of them chased me a bit. My Hokas seem to be the shoes that help my shin feel the best.

I have an iPod Nano 6th generation, my second of the same type. The first died after a few years due to the power button not working anymore (spring died so it would not pop back up). I've had this one 5 years now. I completely shattered the screen last year but I still love it. The Volume Down button stopped working today, though, and the power button is about toast, too. This makes me very sad as I love this iPod. It's a very nice size with a built-in clip for running, stores lots of podcasts (my listening item of choice during runs), and has an FM radio, which is useful as my gym uses radio transmitters to broadcast the sound for the TV's on display. I cannot find any reasonable replacements in size and with a radio, so will likely buy an iPod Nano 7, which is also discontinued but may still be available. It doesn't have the clip and is a bit bigger. I do not want to run with my phone as it is large and expensive, plus does not have radio for the gym.

If I could find new iPod nano 6's, I'd buy them all. Pity when good products disappear.
Thu, 14 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Sep 13, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-13-2017.html
AM 3 run, 3 xt. Shin was ok

Lunch- ultimate. 22 people, most ever for Wed, so we did 2 games. My team was pretty stacked- we won first game 5-3, then beat the other winning team 5-0.
Wed, 13 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Sep 12, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-12-2017.html
AM- 3 run, 2 bike. Wanted to do more but had a work meeting. But when I got to my desk, it had been cancelled.

I've had 3 coworkers die in the past 2 weeks. Two of them were in their 50's- one passed away in his sleep, one in a car wreck. Maybe I'm next. My main observation from it is that people are a bit stunned at first, but then life goes on just fine without them. So it goes, as a great writer once said. Indeed.
Tue, 12 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Sep 11, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-11-2017.html
AM- 2 run, then 4 bike. Shin was ok, but not great. Very, very frustrated

Lunch- memorable day. Played 80 minutes of frisbee in a hurricane. Or what is left of a hurricane. We actually had a bit of a low spot in terms of wind and rain for most of the game, so it wasn't too bad for the most part. It was fun.
Mon, 11 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Sep 08, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-08-2017.html
no run or bike but did walk 15 miles around Washington DC while visiting with my dad
Fri, 08 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Sep 07, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-07-2017.html
yawn
Thu, 07 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Sep 06, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-06-2017.html
AM 3 miles running, then 30 min bike. Left felt ok, not perfect

Lunch- ultimate frisbee during a hard rainstorm. I'll take credit for this one, as I talked most the participants into coming. We actually had a fun 7v7. Good fun. My team lost 5-1, then won 3-2. Shin started to hurt a bit more distinctly the last few minutes.
Wed, 06 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Sep 05, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-05-2017.html
AM bike. And did some weight training, too. Shocked the gym staff.
Tue, 05 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Sep 01, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-01-2017.html
xt
Fri, 01 Sep 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 31, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-31-2017.html
xt
Thu, 31 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 30, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-30-2017.html
AM hour bike

Lunch- ultimate. 19 people, a record for Wednesday (before last week, we never had more than 15). My team won 5-3. Cool and not windy. Very nice. The remnants of Harvey come today, though, for a few days. Shin was ok but started hurting the last 10 minutes.
Wed, 30 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 29, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-29-2017.html
PM- well, today was a huge bummer. Beautiful, 78 deg temps for a run at PM with Aaron, Merle, and Seth. But my right shin, which was twinging a bit yesterday, was complaining with each and every step, right from the start, and it didn't get better. After 2 or 3 miles, I called it a day and walked the 3 miles back to the car. Yes, walked. That stunk, but hopefully a few days rest will make it happy.
Tue, 29 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 28, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-28-2017.html
AM 6. Cooler out. Didn't feel stupendous but I guess I was running well- 7:30ish at the end.

Lunch- 20 people at frisbee, so 2 games. My team won the first 5-4, lost the second 3-5. Windy day made for some adventure.
Mon, 28 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Aug 26, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-26-2017.html
AM- ran 2 miles with Marci, then 4 by myself, which meant my pace went from 10:00 to 7:30. Not often you increase pace that much in a run.

54 miles for the week, between frisbee and running. That's my highest in 14 months. That mileage used to be a normal training block Mon-Wed.
Sat, 26 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 25, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-25-2017.html
AM- not as hot in the mornings anymore, mid-60's. Ran 7 miles, most on GE trail. Saw 1 turkey, no deer, no people. Solitude. Still listening to Hardcore History podcast during runs. Right now I'm working through the Punic Wars series.

I'm enjoying my solo morning runs with podcasts. Not sure what I'll do when it's cold, dark, and rainy in the morning- probably sometimes outside, sometimes treadmill. Of course, treadmill is more enjoyable once NFL season starts so I can watch Mike and Mike. Although I'm doing my best to minimize time spent on football this season.

Lunch- ultimate frisbee. It's been a while since I had a bad game- Wednesday, for example, I was catching pretty much everything and all my throws were going where I wanted, even the long ones. Not today. Real stinker of a game- a few bad drops, but mainly lots of bad throws. Short, medium, long... bad. 20 people, so 2 games. My team lost the first one 5-1, then the second 5-3. Then we cobbled together 8 people for 1 more game, which we lost 5-3. Blah. Always fun, but a real stinker for me today. The good news was we played for almost 90 minutes between all the games, not finishing till 1:30.
Fri, 25 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 24, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-24-2017.html
AM- 8 miles, 2x GE trail. 7 deer, 1 turkey, no people. Not sure if I was moving fast or slow. I know slow at start but maybe faster by the end? I keep finding the near on the other side of the GE chain link fence from me, and they freak out and try to run away even though I can't get them. Even seen one jump it, plus others run into it or other things. If they just stood still, they would be just fine.
Thu, 24 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 23, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-23-2017.html
AM 6 on GE trail. Biggest group of turkeys I've ever seen, 9 or 10

Lunch- 6 v 6 ultimate. Hot and humid. My team was down 0-2 but then won 5-3. We probably had a better team, especially since right at the start of the game we lost our worst player and they other team lost their best. Still, the other team scored the first 2.
Wed, 23 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 22, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-22-2017.html
PM- PM with Merle, Aaron, and Seth. Lots of talk on the eclipse. Aaron and Seth didn't see totality due to clouds, which is too bad. Hot, mid 90's. Merle and I did the whole 10 mile loop, and I felt pretty good. Hope I feel good tomorrow, as well.
Tue, 22 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 21, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-21-2017.html
AM 8 around home. Then worked for home to watch the solar eclipse. We had totality here in Greenville, and it was really awesome. Unique sight, very beautiful. Seeing the corona was my favorite. It was not as dark as I thought it would be- the sky was purple and blue, not black, but you could see a few stars and planets. There were also strange-shaped shadows, shadow waves, and the diamond ring. Neat day, I'll definitely remember this one.
Mon, 21 Aug 2017 06:00:00
