Got in late then awake all night in bed. Finally got our of bed and ran 9 miles at 5 am.
Fri, 21 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Apr 20, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-20-2017.html
AM- 8 mile run around home. Felt good- first mile was over 8 min pace, but then started going faster and felt good. Last two miles were 14:04. First sub-7:30 miles since October.

Heading to Vegas for BIL wedding this weekend.
Thu, 20 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Apr 19, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-19-2017.html
AM- 9. Kinda slow, a bit tired from last night.
Wed, 19 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Apr 18, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-18-2017.html
PM- first Paris Mtn run in 6 months. Ran with Seth, Aaron, Lynn. 7.5 miles. Seth told us about his first ever 50k last weekend. He enjoyed it.
Tue, 18 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Apr 17, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-17-2017.html
AM- 6

Lunch- frisbee. 7v7. My team was getting beat at the start but pulled it together and won 5-0. Or maybe 5-1.
Mon, 17 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Apr 14, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-14-2017.html
Lunch- went to work at lunch just so I could play frisbee. Nice day of 7v7 with almost no wind, though first hot day of the year (80+ deg). Even battle, my team won 5-2, then 5v5 game won 3-1.
Fri, 14 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Apr 13, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-13-2017.html
No workout. My shingles nerve pain has come back, and wearing slacks for work rubs my scabs constantly, so they are not healing and infected, with a super swollen lymph node near my thigh/groin makes walking or running or bending my leg painful. So no workour today. Tomorrow doesn't look good, either.

I really don't like shingles.
Thu, 13 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Apr 12, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-12-2017.html
AM- wanted an hour but felt pretty bad so it looked doubtful. General fatigue plus signs of my shingles coming back didn't make it fun. But I got 8 miles, all 8:15 pace or thereabouts.
Wed, 12 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Apr 11, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-11-2017.html
I was supposed to go to Paris Mtn for the first time since October, but my shingles is acting up and I've got something very swollen and hard at the top of my left thigh. Not sure if it's a lymph node or what, but it hurts. Plus, I ended up having a long day at work, almost 11 hrs. I did get a run at the very end of the day. I was thinking I'd have to bike due to my leg but ended up doing 6 miles. Felt ok.
Tue, 11 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Apr 10, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-10-2017.html
Lunch 2 run then frisbee. Lost 5-1. Ouch.
Mon, 10 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Apr 08, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-08-2017.html
AM 6
Sat, 08 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Apr 07, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-07-2017.html
Lunch- ultimate on a nice day. Pretty epic game, though long points. My team kept getting it close and rushing the last point. Lost 4-5.
Fri, 07 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Apr 06, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-06-2017.html
AM- planned run of 8 miles was a bit painful at the start (lower back soreness?) but I got into a groove. 8 turned into 10 turned into 11. Steady and slow, 8:00 pace. Felt good to feel good running. I'll take it.
Thu, 06 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Apr 05, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-05-2017.html
AM- 7 miles on GE track. Much better than yesterday but not fast- probably 8-8:30 pace.
Wed, 05 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Apr 04, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-04-2017.html
One of my most pathetic workouts ever. Planned to run 8-10 miles. My legs and whole body immediately let me know that wasn't happening. Aborted the run and ended up a slow bike ride for 30 minutes. Pretty pathetic- just very tired. Not sure how much of today was coming back from a week sick and not working out, general tiredness, and the low cal diet catching up to me. Either way, not a day to remember. At least not for any amazing workout reasons.
Tue, 04 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Apr 03, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-03-2017.html
Lunch- back at work, back to frisbee. Stormy, so a few minutes of hard rain, quite a bit of drizzle, but still had 15 people. We lost 5-3, which is pretty good since I'd saw we were outgunned in terms of good throwers.
Mon, 03 Apr 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 29, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-29-2017.html
I've finally admitted that shingles hurts and I probably shouldn't go running. I'll try to get a walk in today. I'm staying home for at least a few days. By low riding my pants and having my shirt tied up halfway with a hair band, I can reduce the pain at least somewhat.

I've been surprised how many people have told me they previously had shingles- my coworkers, boss, church friends, family. All agreed it is terrible.

I was asked to give a talk on Easter at church on being strengthened in our trials through Christ. Between the layoffs at work, shingles, and struggling within myself, I've got some good examples, now.
Wed, 29 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Mar 28, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-28-2017.html
I'm officially crazy. I ran 10 miles this morning with Shingles all over my waist/back/left thigh. On the short list of most painful runs of my life- almost stopped in the first 2 miles, but then got used to it. The overall pain has gotten so bad, though, that I couldn't sleep last night, went to the doc for meds today, and plan to rest the next few days. Work clothes are extremely painful, so no work. Shingles is excruciating. The nurse said she sees shingle patients all the time and I have the worst she's ever seen, and the doc agreed it was terrible (you should have heard all the nurses talking in the hall...). Very painful.
Tue, 28 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Mar 27, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-27-2017.html
Well, it's official. Shingles really does hurt. In case you were wondering. Wearing work pants and having to sit all day is the worst, but it wasn't enough to stop my from playing Ultimate. My team won 5-2 with the last point a full field bomb from me to Chris. Beautiful. My one dive was a huge mistake, however, especially since I landed on my back, which is where the biggest concentration of blisters are. Fortunately, they say the pain only lasts 3-5 weeks (!). This isn't going to be fun.

I'll see tomorrow how much running I can do. There are still more blisters growing on the inner thigh, which may stop all activity once they fully develop. This might be a long, painful month.
Mon, 27 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Mar 25, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-25-2017.html
AM- 6 on a cool morning. Nice and easy, 7:50-8:30 pace. part of recovery week.

I've found it interesting how no carbs for 2 weeks has not seemed to impact my exercising at all. I haven't done any runs longer than 80 minutes, so maybe I would feel different at longer distances, but I haven't really felt any energy differences for not eating carbs.
Sat, 25 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Mar 24, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-24-2017.html
AM- 5

Lunch- frisbee. Had 2 fields, so did a mini tournament. My team won the first game 5-3, then switched and beat the other winning team 5-2, then won another game 3-0. Fun day, great weather again- high 50's, low breeze.
Fri, 24 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Mar 23, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-23-2017.html
Lunch run with barry and seth. Mainly talked about layoffs that were happening today. Layoffs suck. We had thought my department wouldn't be hit but we were, hard. My group and basically all groups. I made it through ok, but still tough. They said they will be filling many of the positions except overseas with cheaper labor. We heard more to come, though not sure when. Anyway, I have a job for now.

40 minutes, we'll call it 5 miles.
Thu, 23 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 22, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-22-2017.html
Lunch- 5v5 ultimate. My team lost 5-2.
Wed, 22 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Mar 21, 2017 http://Jon.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-21-2017.html
AM 9 miles in 70 min on GE track. Perfect weather for a run. Didn't push the pace. Started 8+, some 7:30's by the end.
Tue, 21 Mar 2017 06:00:00
