Had a very enjoyable experience at the amazing Western States 100 and was lucky enough to even earn the coveted sub24 hr silver buckle. What a challenging, beautiful, well-run race. Truly a bucket list day with some great friends. Even saw the most inspiring running finish of my lifetime by Gundhild Swanson, the first 70+ yr female finisher, who ran the last section as fast as former Olympian and female winner, Magdalena Boulet, and was cheered in to beating the time limit by 5 seconds(http://www.usl.tv/gunhild-swanson-2015-western-states-finish/). I won't forget this race.

Thanks, guys. Steve, I probably will for memory sake. This is my last ultra, at least for a long time. If i do, I'll post it here.

Well done Jon - glad to see you do as well as you did - and it seems you really enjoyed the experience - which is even better.

From SlowJoe on Mon, Jun 29, 2015 at 18:18:48 from 45.18.50.53

Yeah I'd love to hear the details too, when you get a chance.

Why are you not running anymore ultras?

From Bob on Tue, Jun 30, 2015 at 07:23:20 from 70.194.64.196

Terrific job Jon! I can't imagine doing two 50s in a row.

From Blake Bennion on Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 23:51:17 from 107.191.0.118

That's so amazing, I can't even imagine the courage, toughness, and hard work you've put into this. Congratulations!

Thanks, everyone. Looking back over the past week, I have no regrets and only good memories of the race. Such a fun time.

SlowJoe, we recently had our 5th kid, with the oldest only 8 years old. It's a lot of work. And training adequately for mountain ultras where I live is very difficult with long drives. Plus I've been injured for a year, plus have big church and work responsibilities. Add it all up and I need a long break with different focus in life. I still might do some shorter trail runs occasionally, and will keep running some, but I'm done for now. I talked about it with other runners during the day and others are feeling burnt out, too. I'm at peace with it. I'm looking forward to more reading, kid time, and sleep! My wife says she has a huge list of home projects, too.

Yep, that makes sense. That is a lot of young kids!

I've enjoyed reading about your ultra adventures over the years, and I'm pretty sure you've inspired many (myself included) along the way.

Incredible! That is an amazing achievement. Congratulations!

Wow hats off to you! I will never do this one or this distance it's just 73.8 miles to far:)
