Full race report on the home of my very muddy green shorts

Quick race report- Felt good first 2 hrs, then felt like crap (well, puking, more accurately) the next 1.5 hrs.  Not fun.  Finally recovered and tried to catch the one guy ahead of me.  Made up lots of time but 2 wrong turns and some ill-time pit stops did me in.  Finished in second, 83 seconds behind the very elated victor, Mike Mason.  Well done race with good course.  Course was pretty technical and muddy (by East Coast standards, which are more difficult than Utah standards), moreso than expected, 6k+ ft of non-stop hills, with intermittent rain and chilly temps.  Good workout for Umstead, but not super as a race- I was hoping to be a fair amount faster.  I'll give it a solid "meh"- full race report later.

A short Ron Paul clip to watch while you wait for my race report.  Warning: humorous, and no mention of the Fed.  Link courtesy of Rob.

This is the most sense I've ever heard Ron Paul make.

Kidding! Sort of.

I'm impressed. Good work my friend.

Very neat race. Man, do I ever want to try a long trail race.

From Jake K on Sun, Feb 05, 2012 at 09:34:34 from 67.177.21.60

Good job Jon. You are exactly firing me up to do one of these long trail races w/ tales of 90 minutes of puking - although it does sound kinda bada$$. Way to make up the gap after going through a rough patch. 83 seconds isn't too much - a little more trail and you probably could have taken it.

For a "meh" race, you did quite well! Looking forward to the full details! What is mud? We don't have that in Utah, it is either snow or sun.

Jake- I was definitely gaining. I didn't know it, cause I never saw him.

Cody- don't worry, I'll have pics.

Close finish for a 6+ hour race. Awesome that a meh effort gets you second -- congrats, enjoyed the report.

Nice job pushing through the issues and still making it such a tight race for the win. You are looking to have a great year...these easterner's did not know what they were getting when you moved into the area.

Congrats!
