Been very tired and had to be at work early, so no morning run. Running a lab test all day, so no afternoon run. Hadn't gotten home before 9 pm for the past few days, so no evening run. Goose egg. That's ok- taper.

It rained all day today and supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. The SeaBass (Seth and Barry Aid Station) will get rained on tonight. Those two guys are driving up 90 minutes tonight, backpacking in 2 hrs, sleeping in the rain, and doing the reverse tomorrow- all to deliver some gu's and water to Jason and me at a 30 second stop. That's a good running buddy. Anyways, it's going to be rainy and cool (low 65, high 75). The temps will be great, the humidity will stink, there will be mud/water, and the thousands of stairs and bridges will be very slippery. In other words, time goals might be out the window. Hopefully the rain will keep the spider webs away, at least, or else I'll be running through 1000 or more webs tomorrow. Industrial strength webs.

Anyways, Jason picks me up at 2:50 am in the morning to drive to the race. That is nuts. And isn't going to help with my sleep depravation, either. :)

What race you headed to Jon?

Sounds lovely!

Kendall, I'm running the 20th edition of the Laurel Valley 35 miler. 35 miles across the most rugged mountains in South Carolina, with no road crossings or aid stations. Yup, it's a tough one.

Good luck over there. Looks like you're the defending champ and CR holder. Go get it!

From Jon on Fri, Aug 08, 2014 at 15:50:52 from 107.203.52.135

I'm defending champ, definitely not CR holder. I've never broken 6 hrs, but it's been done 11 times. I think it has the most impressive CR of all races I've ever done- 5:02. If I struggle to break 6 hrs, then 5 hrs is insanely fast.

To give you an idea, guys have run 5:5X six times, 5:4X 3 times, and the two fastest times are 5:29 and 5:02. When you run almost a minute per mile faster than anyone else, it's impressive. Clark Zealand really brought it in 2000.

Good luck, have fun!

Sorry my bad. Web site listed you with the fastest time (maybe I'm doing something wrong). An hour faster than YOUR fastest time in a 5-6 hour race IS impressive. Good luck with that sub 6.

It'll be a cool race report to read. Kick some butt!
