HOLY CRAP...

My dive off the deep end of ultra running may now be complete.  I have done something unimaginable even just a few months ago- I applied to the Barkley.  I wasn't one of the unlucky 35 souls who got officially accepted, but I was placed number 13 on the wait list.  And I've already moved up to number 11.  From what I'm hearing, 10-20 people get in from the list every year, which means my chances are very good.  And so, until further notice, I'm training and planning to run the Barkley this year!  Nuts!

Lunch- 10 miles running.

Barkley is nuts. Its not a race, its a hike-fest with crazy rules. Bring a machete for bushwhacking.

Email me the date when you find it out (if you don't know it already) Is it march 30th this year?

I love their website. They have a 60 mile "Fun Run".

Cody it's April fools weekend. Not sure if that means before or after apr 1 this year.

Rob- the race doesn't officially have a website. The whole thing is strange, errr, unique, that's for sure.

You seem a good fit for Barkley. Good luck getting in.

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 09:49:49 from 24.10.249.165

Yeah... it said it was the unofficial website.

Saw your comment about The Road on Bam's blog. If you like The Road you should check out a book called "The Dog Stars" by Peter Heller. Takes place entirely in Colorado probably ten or twenty years from now after a mysterious flu epidemic has wiped out about 99% of the population.

Definitely a nice way to start the year getting something on the new calendar. Happy New Year to you and your family.

Agreed

Are you entering the Chuckanut lottery on Friday?

From Jon on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 14:51:35 from 107.203.52.135

Rob-I'll have to check it out.

David- planning on it, yes. I have some airfare I have to spend, and I figure that race is as good as any.

From Jon on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 14:51:47 from 107.203.52.135

Are you?

From David Nelson on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 15:00:18 from 67.168.183.133

I was talking to a buddy this morning about it, he ran last year but isn't sure he'll try again. If you toss your name in the lottery I'll do the same. At very least I'll be up there to volunteer, but having an entry would be some good winter motivation.

From Jake K on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 18:46:48 from 67.177.11.154

I knew it wouldn't be long before you threw your name in the hat for this one! :-)
