Lunch- 6 ez.  Planned on 16 today but woke up feeling sick-ish, so slept more and just did 1 easy run.  The nice part of taper week is I can be flexible with my runs.  Excited for my 40 mile race this weekend- feeling in shape, just don't want to be sick.

Signed up for The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 San Francisco in December, the most competitive 50 mile ultra in the US.  Very excited to compete on a big stage again this year.  Still a long ways away with many miles and races before then, though.

Nice! Its a long ways off - but still, exciting to know that its in the cards for this year. That was a super competitive race last year, so it will be fun to follow all the updates as you are kicking butt out in San Fran!

When are you going to try an ultra, Jake?

From Jake K on Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at 22:04:06 from 67.177.21.60

I did one last March - I'm undefeated in Ultras!

At some point I will do a real one - it seems like, on paper, I have the potential to be good at it. Something like a competitive 50 miler (like the North Face) where you are really RACING is appealing to me.

That's right- I had forgotten that you won the Buffalo Run 50k. Enjoy your streak- I was undefeated in my first 4 trail ultras/marathons.

Registration is still open- sign up for The North Face 2012!

You know I actually mentioned this one to Andrea a few weeks ago. Ideally I'd run an early fall marathon this year - so the timing would actually be really good. Plus I have some good friends in San Fran that we need to go visit. I kinda want to wait and see when the OTQ window will open up again - my guess is not until fall 2013 or early 2014, so it actually could work. How early do these kind of races fill up? Like if I waited until July to decide, do you think I'd still be able to get a spot? I know trail races don't necessarily give out last minute spots, even to good runners, like a lot of marathons do.

Jake- hard to say. Trail races are filling up faster and faster. Last year it took 2 months, I think, but the RD tweeted yesterday that it's filling up twice as fast. So, if you wanted to do it for sure, you'd have to sign up soon.

That said, I know they do a wait list, and it seems like lots of elites get in from that, though I don't know the details. I signed up early, just to be sure.

You have gotten the wheels turning in my head on this one... I find myself very, very interested in this. I'm gonna have to think about it a little more - but I'm leaning towards just saying I'm gonna do it.

You only live once. Just do it!

Plus, then we could share a rental car! (jk)
